Quesnel, B.C. - Quesnel Councillors have given approval in-principle to the city's 2011 operating budget...
At a meeting on Monday, councillors approved the addition of a few supplemental items - new radios for Emergency Services and an additional $25-thousand dollars for asphalt patching.
Councillors also agreed to transfer $50-thousand dollars from a transit surplus to offset some of the tax increase for 2011. Pending final budget discussions, the proposed hike in the tax levy sits between 5- and 5.5-percent.
An additional utility employee has been approved to work in the city's water and sewer division, but that decision comes at no additional cost to city coffers, the position is funded through utility fees.
Finally, councillors reviewed the capital project priority list. The proposed general capital budget is $865-thousand dollars, it will be debated at the next budget meeting, set for March 7th.
