Prince George, B.C.- Prince George City Council meets this evening for a regular meeting, and will look at options from moving traffic flow to two way traffic in the downtown.
Staff will present a plan that calls for the development of two roundabouts, one at Cassiar and 5th, the other at 3rd and Vancouver, to make the switch to two way traffic. The changes could cost just under $2 million dollars.
Also on the agenda, a call from recreational hockey and the minor hockey association that the City take a second look at its plans to demolish and build a new Kin 1 for the Canada Winter Games. The request is for a new facility to be built as well as upgrades made to the existing Kin 1 and Kin 2. The belief is this will ensure there is no loss of facility use while a new one is being built and will have a positive impact on cost control.
Council will be asked to take another step towards being a bear smart community. The Conservation Officers from the Ministry of the Environment will present their final report on bear activity in the City over the past year. There were 1925 bear calls in the city last year. Of that number, 1901 were black bear, and 24 were grizzly bears. The number one attractant for bears continues to be garbage (recorded as the attractant in 566 calls), followed by fruit trees (160), bird feeders (67) and berry bushes (47).
