Mackenzie, B.C.- An audit of Conifex Mackenzie Forest Products has resulted in a passing grade from the Forest Practices Board.
"There was no active harvesting or road construction undertaken during the audit period, but Conifex adequately maintained its roads and bridges," said board chair Al Gorley. "The audit did note some log bridges that are in disrepair, but Conifex has a plan in place to address these inherited issues."
Conifex only acquired the licence from Abitibi Bowater in August of 2010, and the audit examined operations from October of 2009 to October of 2010.
About half of the Mackenzie Forest District licence is within a pine stand and much of it has been impacted by the mountain pine beetle.
The Forest Practices Board has noted it will be a challenge for Conifex to manage the large amount of dead, and dying timber in the years to come.
