Prince George, B.C.-  It’s back to budget talk  today at Prince George City Hall.

This afternoon,  the  focus will be on the Development Services  department and some of the divisions of the Operations Department.

This evening at 7:00 the focus will shift  to Tourism Prince George and its  budget plans.  The budget it presents calls for  an extra $50 thousand dollars in spending, but the money  doesn’t come from taxpayers, rather  the extra money  is from the hotel tax which raised more than anticipated.

That will be followed by  a look at snow control,  roads, public transit, garbage services and sewer and water services.

As always, there will be an opportunity for public input on the budget process at the start of each meeting. The first session starts at 4:30, the second  is set to begin at 7:00.

We can drop the snow removal budget as climate change will take care of that.
I deal with a lot of tourists. One of the most common comments from them concern either why there are so many potholes in this city or why are the roads so clogged with snow. I guess other cities must do a much better job of it. It is sad that this is what impresses them the most. What a legacy to leave them!
Aw, c'mon Give More, they probably say the same thing about places like Basingstoke. We just got a couple more.
Sorta like dodge ball. If you stay too close to the vehicle in front of you, you hit all of them.
But, I'm rather disgusted that the folks who built our road didn't put a better base in, probably would have cost less than the budget for pothole removal over the years.
Most potholes are created in the cracks that crisscross most of our roads. When crack sealing is done and maintained the pothole situation can be close to non existant. I can't remember the last time I saw a crack sealing crew in this town. I have however watched over the past many years where all the material used for crack sealing has been coming out of those cracks and gets dragged down the road by our cars. Never do see the crack get resealed. Always see the crack turn into potholes though. Our situation is due to a complete lack of proper maintenance. During our pothole seasons I have called in many potholes only to be told over the phone that the only thing they can do at this time is the cold patch method but it doesn't last and the hotpatch method will be done at a later date. Still wondering when that later date is coming.

How else are we going to fund studies and the like if they spend our money on necessary things like crack sealing?
Hey Slim, they are using the same road standards for new roads they build as they did back in the fifties.
