Prince George, B.C.- Environment Canada now says there is a snowfall warning in effect with 5- 10 centimetres expected today before this nasty system that hit the region over the weekend moves on.
Saturday, Prince George received 11.8 centimetres (4.65 inches) of snow. That was well below the record for that day which was 14.5 centimetres (5.7 inches) which fell February 26th, 1950.
As for Sunday, the Prince George Climate Centre only takes one sample per day, and as of this writing had not submitted its report to Environment Canada. The record snowfall for February 27th was 14.5 centimetres (5.7 inches) which was dumped on the City on February 27th of 2006.
And while it may look like there is a ton of snow on the ground, Environment Canada says it still doesn’t match the amount of snow that was on the ground by February 27th 1956. On that day, the City was under an accumulated 102 centimetres (40.16 inches) of snow. The current accumulation is 70 centimetres (27.56 inches).
Once the snowfall stops today, we will be heading back into the deep freeze with a high tomorrow of -16 and the windchill will make it feel more like -35.
