Prince George, B.C. -  A meeting is just getting underway this hour at the indoor Farmers' Market at the corner of 3rd Avenue and George street for local residents and farmers concerned about seed biodiversity...

The idea of developing a local Seed Bank grew out of last weekend's Seedy Saturday, and today's start-up meeting is for plant and seed lovers interested in starting such a bank to preserve biodiversity.

Traditional seed varieties are seen as a vital heritage that many experts see as a key to food security in the future.  The Millenium Seed Bank Partnership is the largest plant conservation effort in the world.  Since its inception in 2000, it has worked with partners across 50 countries to successfully bank 10-percent of the world's wild plant species - its goal is to bank 25-percent by 2020.
