Prince George, B.C. - It will be a whirlwind week for the seven candidates vying to replace retired Conservative MP Jay Hill in the riding of Prince George-Peace River...

Today marks the start of a series of six nomination meetings that will culminate with Hill's successor being decided either late Friday night or early Saturday morning.  Prince George-Peace River Conservative riding association president, Chad Anderson, says this is really a "once-in-a-generation" opportunity for party members.

"It's not everyday of the week that we get the opportunity to choose the Conservative candidate in our riding," says Anderson.  "It's been 18-years since Jay Hill received the nomination and then, of course, Mr. (Frank) Oberle before him was in office for 22-years."

The seven candidates vying for the right to represent the party in the next federal election are (in alphabetical order):  Dan Davies, Don Irwin, Colin Kinsley, Jerrilyn Schembri, Les Shurtliff, Cameron Stolz, and Bob Zimmer.

The nomination meetings begin with one hour set aside for speeches, followed by two hours for voting.  Tonight's meeting is in Fort Nelson at Woodlands Inn & Suites, for a complete list of meetings throughout the week click here.  The final meeting is set for Prince George on Friday night between 6pm and 9pm.

Anderson anticipates it will be late Friday night or early Saturday morning before the results are known.  "It depends on what our turn-out is, obviously, in terms of how many ballots there will be to count, but, furthermore, it's a preferential ballot, so that adds to the counting time required if someone doesn't receive 50-percent plus one support on the first ballot, then there will be further stages of counting."

In addition to being riding association president, Anderson is chair of the nomination committee so he must remain neutral on the candidates, but he's encouraging as many party members as possible to come out and have their say.

For any true Conservative, the choice of Colin Kinsley is a no-brainer.
My money is on Kinsley to win.
Question for herbster.

What is a "true Conservative."

Why is Colin Kinsley that choice?

Colin Kinsley is yesterdays man. He ran for the Conservative nomination a number of years ago and was beat by Valerie Kordyban I believe. Later he got the Nomination for the Reform Party and lost the election to Harris, and now he is trying again for Hill,s seat.

Seems he has a burning desire to go to Ottawa. Maybe he should have taken a few trips there when he was Mayor instead of spending all his time in China.

The Prince George Peace River Riding is huge and should be represented by someone who is familiar with the area, which is mainly gas, oil, farming, lumber, etc; The riding includes Ft Nelson, Ft St John, Pouce Coupe, Dawson Creek, Chetwyn, Taylor, Tumbler Ridge, MacKenzie.

The only claim that Colin has to the area is that he lives in the North Nechako area.

Cant think of any reason why anyone North of Bear Lake would vote for Colin, or Cameron Stolz, however stranger things have happened.
I hope Stolz makes it! We need a bit of fresh blood on the city councilors' team!

I havent yet heard of anyone new who is going to run for Mayor or Council in the next election.

If they dont get started soon, there will be no **fresh blood** on City Council next year.
We need a strong Conservative party - how else can we ever get rid of the Canada Health Act.
When Harper ran the National Citizens Coalition this was one of their prime targets like the gold plated pensions our fearless leaders get.
So get out and vote. Remember the tax monies wasted on health can be given to Corporate Welfare.
I guess we cannot get an inside leak of the number of members of the party who live north of Bear Lake. That might give us a hint of the chances the two from PG have.

Since people supposedly have "a chance of a lifetime", perhaps they should vote for Colin since he would likely be the first one to retire should he win.

Then again, Cam would likely follow a pattern and run as Prime Minister and may retire early as well. ;-)
