Prince George, B.C.- Instructors at the College of New Caledonia are planning a rally for Wednesday to air some of their concerns about layoffs and program cuts.

Members of the Faculty voted unanimously on March 1st to allow their  negotiating team to take a strike vote whenever it deems necessary.   Colleagues at Langara College, Vancouver Island University, and Vancouver Community College have already taken strike votes.

The instructors accuse the college and the current provincial government of increasing administrative salaries and decreasing access for students.

The rally is set for noon at the CNC main campus atrium.

Those at the top are doing well, and still hiring in administration.
It is the same all over B.C.,even in the Yukon.
Those at the bottom are being laid off, hours cut, courses cancelled or no longer offered, and tuition fees are going up.
It has been a long time since there was a new contract.
This could get very ugly, but those at the bottom are not to blame.
You said a mouth full Andyfreeze. This appears to be a sickness in every institution in our society. The rich get richer and the poor get poorer. Its honour among thieves. Its education that wiil solve many of our social ills.
Cheers
I agree Retired 02.
As a matter of fact,we need to start paying attention to the fact that costs for everything are rising at rate we haven't seen in years.
How long has it been since anyone had a raise of any consequence, unless they are high up on the corporate ladder somewhere?
Or a politician, who constantly tell us peons at the bottom to tighten our belts?
Long time.
And I don't think that's any accident.
This is going to come to a head in the very near future...it has to, and it should.
Makes you wonder what people are paying union dues for in today's world?
One solution to financial problems of CNC is merging it with UNBC similar to university of Okanagan and the Okanagan college before spliting.

I am wondering where Shirley Bond, the former minister of advanced education will be during the rally.

Umm how does that help Univ? Doesn't UNBC have budget shortfalls too?

I heard Shirley was buying the Domano's!
If you merge them, then you will pay for 1 president, one registrar, and you can eliminate other costs associated with buildings, library and ....

A merger, "if managed properly", could introduce some extra synergy making the value of combined entity more than the summation of two.

Where was Pat Bell during the rally?
