Victoria, B.C. - B.C.'s  Premier designate, Christy Clark will be sworn in  one week from today.

In her  first visit to the Legislature since winning the Liberal leadership race,  Clark told reporters she plans to have her new cabinet sworn in  at that time and  hinted the cabinet will be smaller.

As for when or where she will run in a byelection, she indicated  Premier Gordon Campbell's riding  may be the likely  riding, but  did not indicate when that would take place.

Premier Campbell has indicated he would step down from  his riding if  Clark  asked him to do  so.

That's mighty nice of gordo, here take it. i can't stand being involved from outside the fence.
"Premier Campbell has indicated he would step down from his riding if Clark asked him to do so."

I imagine he would have stepped down anyways. Can't see a role for him just keeping a chair warm as a backbencher.

He is moving on for sure.
Dont forget that Campbell as a sitting MLA would have a salary of $100,000.00 per year. He would probably get a similiar amount as a pension if he stepped down, but if not, thats a pretty good reason to hang around.
I think, a politician that survives 8 years should get a nice pension. I wouldn't throw myself out there for that kind of money, so fly at it.

it should be an interesting spring. new premier flexing her arms, paying off favours. a new NDP leader, maybe even a federal election. Wow, the next 60 days on Opinion 250..... who is gonna get kicked off.
Campbell is disappointed that one of his puppets did not get the leadership position and he will look forward to seeing some of his men in her cabinet to pull the strings.

She doesn't have many choices and I cringe at the thought that we will have the same corrupt people getting into power and bend the rules and circle the wagons the way Campbell's friends and associates like Shirley Bond did in PG over the past decade.

Clark's first priority should be empowering the rule of law in BC.
Who's to say he won't stay behind the fence and threaten and pull strings and collect the $100,000 for a couple more years.I put nothing past this man as I believe he is as crooked as they come. All kinds of behind the scenes deals could have been made as all this was playing out.
To an extent Campbell and Clark could turn into a Chretien vs Martin split in the BC liberal party if Clark does not play her cards well.

In the next 2 years, Clark can face revolt in her party if she doesn't bring Campbell's loyalists into her cabinet or she can face revolt in BC election by voters if she bring Campbell's loyalists into power.

Clark seems to have two moves: (1) to dominate her cabinet by Campbell's friends or (2) to bring new talent with cleaner record to her team. A third non-commit move by Clark is to not commit to either moves by leaving the majority of Campbell's loyalists out of her cabinet, but leaving 1 or 2 posts in her cabinet empty and prolong her honeymoon.
