Fort St. John, B.C.- The Mayor of Fort St.John, Bruce Lantz has made a formal statement about his behavior which lead to his council colleagues putting sanctions on the Mayor and his participation in events.
With his wife at his side this afternoon at the Fort St.John Council meeting, Mayor Lantz said he is an alcoholic, and that while he had quit drinking about three decades ago, had resumed drinking following a heart attack. Lantz told Council he is working with a counselor and fighting his addiction has increased his resolve to bring addictions services to the Fort St John region.
Two weeks ago, members of the Fort St.John Council unanimously supported sanctions against the Mayor stemming from two incidents that had taken place last year. While details of the incidents have not been released, the sanctions are expected to remain in place until further notice.
