Bear dozes off,  at the edge of bush off a rural road in P.G. region

Prince George, B.C.-  Spring officially arrives at 4:21 PDT this afternon.

Despite the change in seasons and the time zone,  it still looks likes someone put this bear’s clock ahead by more than just an hour!

Spotted by an Opinion 250 contributor on St. Patrick’s day, this bear wandered from the bush and into the sunshine on March 17th off a rural road in the Prince George region.

Our contributor took several photos which we have put together in a photo album of sorts.  Click here to see  the images.

From the photos , it would appear, the bear is still a little groggy, and the snow deeper than expected.

Still, we thought we would pass along the photos to you, as bears coming out of their dens is a sure sign of spring…. and in this case, it doesn’t appear the bear spotted his/her shadow!

You might like to know, that after a half hour of waking and dozing, the bear turned, and headed back up the hill from where it had come.

Back to bed maybe???

Very cool. Nice find.
Cool pic!
Very fortunate individual(s) to be able to see such a beautiful animal, thanks for sharing with the rest of us. Also, thanks for not sharing location, this bear can wake up peacefully.

It's a black bear.
oh its a grizzly, just look at the claws. anyway, I know where there is some lean elk.

It's a black bear.

Let me eat a bit of crow today. I said this was a Grizzly and I am wrong that is a brown bear, claws are sharp at end, and no hump.
When I first looked at the picture of him lying down I didn’t pay enough attention to the fact he didn’t have those claws that are unique to Grizz, nor did I look for the hump.... Sorree... I to make mistakes, and had the picture put up as a Grizzly.
I recently saw a black bear thats a redish brown.
And big too!
I thought it was a griz until I got a better look at it.
Right after I stopped running!
We had a cinnamon bear around our house last year. Was sad to find out by the neighbor that it was destroyed in the fall as it was wandering too close to the mohawk was his thought.
This little guy sure is cute!

re meisner,

It’s a black bear (brownish colour phase), not a brown bear.

The brown bear is a subspecies of the grizzly bear. All grizzlies in Europe and Asia are called brown bears.

Only in Alaska we call grizzly bears that live within 75 miles of the coast brown bears including the Kodiak bear, the largest grizzly of them all.

This is only to differentiate bears by size and weight. Coastal bears are bigger because of their salmon diet that is rich in protein. Interiour grizzlies tend to be smaller as they are foraging on more marginal foods.

Spring bear season opens April 1st. Yummy!
Shoot bears with a camera... not guns.
I prefer my bow thanks, cameras just don't have the desired effect. Ever tried putting a bear in the back of your truck after shooting it with a camera? Then theres a wee bit of an issue when you try to cut and wrap them.
Many thanks to the photographer who took these gorgeous photos of the sleepy bear. You should send them to Westworld magazine and see if they can get published because they're so awesome!
Sweet bear. Sweet pics.

Was sad to hear that Knut the Polar bear died in the Zoo a few days ago. Only 4years old. Such a shame.
This is a terrific pic! We are so blessed to be able to enjoy the wonderous wildlife right at our back doors.
So have the co's ahot him yet? A reported bear is a dead bear. How come moose get a pass?
Dragonmaster, after you cut & wrap it, can I have the hide to hang? LOL
that bear is out allready because of the recent warm spell... probally flooded out his den ... ever try to sleep in a pool of water ?

Young one ... probally 1st or second winter without its mama
should be entitled 'Bearly awake'
You are all wrong. It is a Panda bear if I have ever seen one. Note the rings around its' eyes.
