Prince George, B.C.  - The Beijing Tigers will be  coming to the World Baseball Challenge set for Prince George  July 8-19th.

The Beijing Tigers, who are based in the south part of China’s largest city, represent the Beijing Lucheng Sports Technical School, and the Tigers formed the nucleus of the Chinese National Team that was the host entry for the 2008 Summer Olympic Games in Beijing.

“This is something we have worked on for three years, to confirm the Beijing Tigers – they have a tremendous program and are leading China’s impressive rise up the International Baseball Federation rankings,” said Jim Swanson, the co-chair of the World Baseball Challenge.

The Beijing Tigers were slated to be a feature entry in the 2009 World Baseball Challenge, but worldwide fears over the H1N1 virus prompted cancellation of their travel plans.

Lets hope this second "World Baseball Challenge" is less of a fizzle than the last one in 2009.
I went to many of the '09 games, and saw some good ball played, but the whole thing was hyped to be much more than it turned out to be. Swanson works hard at it though, credit to him, and all the others who are involved.

Metalman: I nominate you chair of the less fizzle commitee! People like you need to get involved. Good for you for attending. I also attended and thought it was very good ball. China will bring alot of other better competition as they don't get out much.
not sure what fizzled, it was an excelent event on every level, name something else that we get internationals to show up for and then want to come back, if only tourism pg was this succesful

how does someone volunteer for this, i'd like to. i think tickets are at tixmaster
"the whole thing was hyped to be much more than it turned out to be"

Theres your explanation of fizzle. The WBC was touted as so much more, that's all.
Would it not have been so much better if several highly skilled teams had not pulled out? Like Cuba?

I stand behind Mr. Swanson, and applaude his effforts, as well as the many others involved. No complaints.

Looking forward to this next WBC.
