Prince George, BC.- The Host Society for the Canada Winter Games has been granted a $100 thousand dollar loan from the City of Prince George, to help the Society get its operations started.
The amount would be paid back, says Society Chair Anthony Everett, once the Society is able to “build the necessary cash resources from our operational plans”. Loosely translated, the Society will pay back the money once it gets the funding it is line to receive from the Provincial and Federal governments and fundraising.
Council has also agreed to provide Administrative staff support while the Society gets up and running. The Host Society will be expected to pay the City for the Staff work over the next 4 to five months.
Currently in the process of recruiting a CEO, the Winter Games Society has yet to develop a Memorandum of Understanding with the City, but Everett says such an agreement should be in place by late May.
Everett says the primary focus for this year, will be the development of an effective and efficient start up plan . “We are very cognizant of our need to have the 2015 Canada Winter Games reflect Northern British Columbia and we intend to create an environment that builds on and enhances the already well established relationships amongst northern communities.”
