Prince George, B.C.- The New Democrat's candidate for the Cariboo-Prince George  riding is  Jon Van Barneveld.

The forestry worker and anti-HST initiative campaigner  won the nomination by acclamation  at a meeting in Prince George  Satruday.

"I plan to change that by working hard to get practical results that will improve the lives of Northerners and their families" says Van Barneveld.

"We will have a campaign that will build bridges between the people of this riding, one that engages youth as members of our soicety and ensures that our seniors aren't left behind," said Van Barneveld. "I look forward to working with the people of Cariboo - Prince George to building a better North and a stronger Canada."

acclamation
In Canada, a candidate for a parliamentary, legislative or municipal position is said to be elected by acclamation if he or she has no opponents for the seat

No else wanted to run.
Wrong>>they all ran the other way. ;-)

It's actually an indication of the weakness of the ndp constituency in Cariboo-Prince George.
This candidate seems to be a little light on substance. Its great that he is prepared to "work hard" and "build bridges", but where's the beef?
What I have heard from Liberal candidate Ben Levine tells me that he can lead a fierce and capable fight against the conservative government's outrageous crony corporatism. Levine is right when he asserts that massive tax breaks for corporations do no good for ordinary Canadians.
