Terrace, B.C. – Terrace Mayor Dave Pernarowski says it’s always exciting when someone sees the potential of the Northwest.

Pernarowski will be meeting with officials from ROC Holdings today, the soon to be new owners of the West Fraser Skeena Sawmills division. West Fraser announced the sale of the Terrace sawmill and related Crown timber tenures yesterday. Other than some chip production, the mill has been curtailed since 2007.

ROC Holdings is a private Canadian company owned by a parent Chinese firm. Plans for the mill haven’t been firmed up yet, but Pernarowski says the new owners plan to restart the operation to produce lumber for export to Asia. The mayor says there could also be opportunities for bio-energy at the site as the mill starts to produce lumber and wood waste.

Details about when the sawmill may restart, how many jobs may be created, and the exact destination of any product are not yet known.

I suppose its a good thing that they plan on running it. Its too bad that a Canadian outfit couldn't make a go of it though.
"ROC Holdings is a private Canadian company owned by a parent Chinese firm."

Don't expect the mill to open anytime soon. This is an inside track to more raw log exports to China. The timber in that area is prime, if there was a chinese market for more BC lumber the existing owners or another Canadian company would be operating it. The timber this mill holds will go the way of all the wood up there, overseas in the form of logs. If anything other than that happens I will be very very surprised.
bang on But.
very old out dated mill
Debarked, squared and sized for containers. Might employ a few people. Enough to keep people from screaming about their logs leaving the country.
