Prince George, B.C. - Police are advising the public of a rental property scam which may be appearing on Craig's List.
Recently, a Prince George resident, who was running an add on Craig's List, looking to rent was contacted by an individual, allegedly from Washington, stating he had a residence on 11th Ave. in Prince George to rent for $800.00 a month.
The potential renter inquired at the residence on 11th Ave., before wiring any monies to the Western Union and discovered that the house on 11th was not for rent.
Had she deposited this money, it would have been lost.
The person who lives at this residence on 11th Ave. advised of a foreign student who had lost a deposit of $1000.00, thinking she was renting this same place.
If you feel you have been the victim of a fraud/scam, please contact your local RCMP, and advise of the details. In many cases, where money has been sent out of Country, nothing can be done, however Police do wish to advise the Public of the details of how the fraud/scam is run, and possibly share this information with other Police Departments.
You may also wish to visit a Federal Government website: Canadian Anti-fraud Centre, which is quite informative concerning frauds and scams.
