What is the RCMP suppose to do, the kid stabbed a guy who is in the hospital.
How about walking up to him and taking the knife? Unless the 11yr old was 6foot 4 and 300 lbs it should not be that hard for someone trained in hand to hand combat.
If you weren't there, it's pretty hard to say what happened and what should have happened.

I've met many kids around that age that are pretty big, strong and violent and I personally wouldn't walk up to them and ask them to hand me the knife they allegedly just stabbed someone else with.
if a cop cant talk an 11 year old kid into puting a knife down maybe it is time for some communication lessons. the only way i can see tasering a child is if the kid was wacked out on drugs and out of control?
controling an 11 year old kid should not need this kind of force.....but the cop will never get trouble for it!! an 11 year old that is stabbing people obviously has some problems. what is going on with this kid and why is he not getting help?
Sure. Talking to someone will always result in them doing what they are told to do and will quickly solve all problems. And if it doesn't, then the person doing the talking needs communication lessons? Doesn't the listener have to take some responsibility for their actions or be prepared for the results of not listening?

I wasn't there, so I'm not sure whether there was a lot of talking happening, or if there was even time to hold a conversation with the person holding the knife. Before we slam the officer involved, it would be nice to know ALL the details.
Droid the hand to hand combat you are talking only happens in a movie. In the real world you will be injured. This kid is lucky he was a kid, an adult most likely have been shot.
11 year old's are scary these days, I don't blame the cop he was probably scared for his life. Ha ha ha what a pussy. I imagine he will be the brunt of many a joke around the office for a while.
Thank god it was only a knife and not a stapler or who knows what would f happened to the kid.
An 11 year old, in a group home who was believed to have just stabbed a 37 year old man. That young adult may have issues with following directions and authority. Perhaps efforts to de-escalate the situations failed.

And before dismissing the police action because of age, remember he had already seriously wounded one full grown adult. You can't believe this was some sweet school kid, clearly it was not.

Approaching a potentially armed and known to be violent subject is extremely dangerous. It's not like on TV where they get into a choreographed fight, and disarm the suspect. The officers would have a very real chance of being seriously injured or killed. So other tools are used. If the suspect doesn't follow instructions to get to the ground, or is approaching the officers and refusing orders to stop, than the suspect is lucky to be tasered and not shot.

We don't know all the facts yet, but jumping to the conclusion that the police were the bad guys in tasering a suspect who was armed and had just stabbed a man is ridiculous.
what i find the funniest here is the west van cops doing the investagation, those bunch of misfits, that is why they are west van cops!!
I'm sure getting fed up with all the cop bashing. All these do-gooders should try to be on the front lines with all the wackos and nutjobs out there, I bet they'd be singing a different tune after getting even a minor laceration from that aids infected knife the 11 year old was wielding...
How many times did they taser this young criminal?
Only once? If I was a cop I would taser him two times just to make sure he got the message.

I don't have any issue with the police using force or there weapons to subdue a person. My issue is shooting people only in the head not in the body and using tasers when mace and a baton would disable a person. A police officer signs up for a job where your going to get punched, stabbed, shot as part of your daily job. They are well paid and are fully aware of the risks heading in so quit panicking and over reacting. Dziekanski was a perfect example of this I would have maced him and beat him to a pulp with a baton not taser him multiple times. The responding officers were not light weights. You can see the fear in a large number of these officers these days there scared shitless and that is dangerous.
Safety first, if there is a hazard at work get ridge of it.
I do see why a cop should have to go to the hospital with a knife wound just because the kids 11 years old.
The people that are doing the cop bashing, why don't you sit at home for a weekend and do nothing, and we'll see what happens to the number of calls the cops get. I'll bet they get none.
This is BS that they taser an 11 year old kid. I am not going to sit and defend this kid, at 11 years old he should know better , and if he has "problems" then maybe he should be better supervised by someone better trained to handle these types of kids. Using a taser on a kid is pure BS . These are trained Police officers who are number one trained to disarm a person , and if that fails have other non lethal methods. All cops carry pepper spray. That should have been used long before a taser . Also , number 2 , a point that has not yet been mentioned , that while there was some risk to the officer(s) trying to disarm this kid , all cops wear body armour. I have yet to see one not wearing it. Yes these cops have a crappy job , and yes there are all sorts of wack jobs and dangerous situations these people have to deal with , that is why they are trained highly in other methods other than deadly force. If they cannot handle the pressure with the ability to make a rational decision , then maybe that is not the career for them. Being a Cop is not for everyone.
That cop who tazered the kid might be a female. Everyone seems to be of the mindset that is was a male.
I see in the paper today that "Jordie" is the owner of two group homes out there. Anything for another buck eh?? You don't have to know anything about kids to make money off the government.
