Prince George, B.C. - A team of students at Nechako Valley Secondary School in Vanderhoof has given others a reason to be green with envy...

Out of 139 projects from 39 School Districts, NVSS's 'Enviro-Vikes' were one of 10 high school teams in B.C - and the only secondary in the northern half of the province - to win a 2011 BC Green Games Award from Science World.

The Enviro-Vikes set two goals for their project: waste reduction and environmental awareness.  The teens produced a video showing their efforts to introduce a paper recycling program at their school and other waste reduction initiatives and included examples of how they're increasing awareness of the environmental challenges facing us all.

In an email informing the Enviro-Vikes of their win, BC Green Games Project Manager, Kate Henderson, said the team's project was successful because it demonstrated an action plan, showed community involvement and capacity building, and was a creative and engaging presentation.

Members of the team were presented with a certificate recognizing their achievement at the 'Year in Science' expo in Prince George on Monday evening.  They also receive one-thousand dollars for their school to build on the efforts outlined in their winning project.

Their project can be viewed at www.bcgreengames.ca
