Prince George, B.C.- The Regional District of Fraser Fort George will not pursue the idea of B.C. Transit service between McBride and Valemount.
B.C Transit carried out a study on the idea, and found there were too few riders and the cost would be too high. They put forth three service options :
- McBride to Valemount with stops in between, with service 2 days a week, and three trips per day with 2 vehicles. The bottom line would mean a rider would have to pay $38.45 per ride.
- Option two, looked at two trips per day three days per week, and that cost would be $40.30 per ride.
And the third option would be a summer service between McBride and the Mount Robson Provincial Park this would have been an add-on service tone of the other options.
B.C. Transit representatives say the Regional District would be better off to encourage ride sharing (car pooling) or look at opportunities which may be available with Northern Health as a means of transportation between the communities because in their mind, the population base is too small to warrant B.C. Transit service at this time.
The good news for the Regional District, is that B.C. Transit is not charging the Regional District the $6,000 it was expected to pay as its portion of the cost of the feasibility study. The reason for that is the study completion was nearly a year behind schedule. B.C. Transit representative Tom Day says the reason for the delay had to do with personnel changes at B.C. Transit.

So at least I can say good move not to implement a transit service between these small towns. But isn't it obvious?
