Prince George City Council has approved the fire department's budget which reflects a 5.6% increase over last year's spending plan.
The major increase is a reflection of increases to wages and benefits(up$300 thousand), fire suppression (up $200 thousand)and fuel costs for the fleet says Chief Jeff Rowland. There was also a $100 thousand dollar increase in the communications centre.
In all, the budget calling for an allocation of $12.07 million was approved.
The Emergency Measures Plan budget was also approved with Chief Rowland saying our City has been very lucky in that industry here has worked with the Fire Department on hazardous goods items. "We are well ahead of the communities on hazardous goods " said Rowland, who explained the work by industry here has helped develop special awareness.
The Bylaw Enforcement budget was also given a green light ($1.45 million) that budget includes expenses for the SPCA/animal control issues ($451 thousand), Enforcement ($434 thousand), and Traffic Control ($384 thousand).
