The Prince George and District Labour Council had hoped to unveil a Memorial to Killed and Injured Workers during a National Day of Mourning Ceremony next month...
Instead, Council Spokesperson Roy Olsen says a sod-turning ceremony will be held to coincide with national events set for April 28th.
Olsen says fundraising efforts took a little longer than expected, but the group has raised $15-thousand dollars to date -- with $5000.00 from the city, $5000.00 from the Labour Council and unions, and another $5000.00 from the corporate community and individual donors.
He says a draft "Request-for-Proposals" is complete and will soon go out to those in the local arts community in hopes of commissioning the memorial in the not-too-distant future.
