As Chair of the Finance and Audit Committee, Councilor Don Zurowski has presented a  report to Council asking  for support to gain funding for road repairs.

Provincial Minister of Transportation, Kevin Falcon, was in town last month and announced the province was dedicating $30 million a year over  the next three years to repair northern interior roads damaged by increased logging truck traffic.  Zurowski wants the City to get some of that cash to repair municipal roads impacted by that traffic.

"We would like to see some of those dollars spent on 5th Avenue, and the Cameron Street Bridge" said Zurowski.

Zurowski's report also calls  for the UBCM to make some changes to the Community Works Fund.  That fund transfers a portion of federal gas tax revenues to local governments.  Over the next few years, Prince George's share will  be about $7.78 million.  Problem is, the fund doesn't include road rehab as an eligible "project".   Zurowski has  presented a motion  calling for  an amendment  so  the  money could be used for  the "rehabilitation of roads and bridges".

"Safe Sound infrastructure is a lifeline to growing our economy" said Councilor Deborah Munoz.  Council gave its full backing to  the resolutions put forth.

Now is the time to pressure all levels of government for our tax dollars to be directed back to our community for infrastructure restoration. Percy

Perhaps if every person would take a few minutes to report the real suspension busters closest to their residence we could make some impact on City Hall?
