An unofficial spokesman speaking on the condition of being anonymous, says the BC ferry Queen of the North actually hit an island off of Gil Island in Wright Sound before sinking to the bottom.

"There definitely is an island there not an underwater rock" he said, and that is what they hit.

Passengers onboard the vessel said they were jolted out of their sleep when the ship first hit and then there was a second collision shortly after.

It was at that point that the sirens began going off.

"It took about an hour before she went down" he said, "When you see the movie Titanic, the Queen of the North went down in the same manner, she went into the air stern first and then simply disappeared under the surface."

At 4.45 this afternoon, all of the people who were on board the vessel were disembarking from the Coast Guard vessel Sir Wilfred Laurier, in Prince Rupert.

The area were they are arriving  has been roped off and the passengers are boarding buses for the trip into Prince Rupert’s down town making it difficult to interview people first hand from the ship.
