RCMP Constable Alain Beaulieu says the investigation continues into the whereabouts of Gerald Foisy and Shirley Rosette, the two Queen of the North passengers who have yet to be accounted for. "We have been investigating every rumour about the couple being seen in Hartley Bay and unconfirmed reports they got on a fishing vessel to return to Prince Rupert" says Beaulieu, but so far they haven't come up with any concrete leads.
Police have now issued a plea to hear from anyone who might have spoken to the couple before they boarded the ferry in Prince Rupert on the evening of March 21st or during the sailing, or after the ferry sank.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Sgt. MC Gillingham, RCMP District Section at 250-627-3131
Although the investigation is continuing, hope is flickering.
The B.C. Ferries CEO David Hahn has been quoted as saying he fears the two went down with the ship. Gerald Foisy's brother says he is now advising family members to prepare for the worst.
The Queen of the North sank off Gil Island in Wright Sound just before 1:00 am yesterday. 99 passengers and crew survived the sinking.
The ship was about one kilometer off course when it struck what some say was a rock, and others say was a tiny island . The ship is sitting at the bottom of the channel in about 1400 feet of water.
