UNBC President Charles Jago meets with reporters following budget approval
The University Board of Governors has approved a 2% increase in tuition, that will push a full time student's annual payment to $4192. The increase is in line with inflation and the increases at Universities across the country say UNBC President Charles Jago.
The Board has also approved a balanced operating budget for 2006 / 07 of $54.4 million dollars. That's a two million dollar increase over last year.
Dr. Jago says this is a budget "Characterized by modest cutbacks considerable restraint and a few carefully be more funding for the environmental engineering program, there have been some research chairs, and a new progam in landscape ecology. There is also an extra person added for student recruitment at the office in Vancouver, and a scholarship program for transfer students. Transfer students will get $750 dolars once their applications have been accepted at UNBC.
It is Charles Jago's last budget, he says it is like all his others "A balanced budget, and he is an absolute fiscal concervative."
