Although gas prices in the Prince George area slipped back three cents a litre over the weekend, expect another hike within ten days or so.
The price of crude hit an all time high today, $71.40 U.S. a barrel. The hike a result of nervousness over the availability of crude as tensions between Iran and the States increase over Teheran's nuclear program. There is also unrest in Nigeria, where rebel attacks have forced oil producers to cut back their exports.
Last week, Air Canada announced it was pushing up air fares from $6.00 to $10.00 per ticket because of increasing fuel prices. At the time, West Jet said it had no plan to follow suit, however, that was a week ago, and the price of crude hadn't yet hit an all time high.
Some trucking companies have also indicated they too will boost their pricing to cover the increased cost, so that will trickle down to everything that is transported by truck into the northern interior.
