Soon to be opened new dealership will have sign that towers more than 33 feet in the air
The signage heading into the new Wood Wheaton site on Highway 16 west, will be higher than normal.
City Council has approved allowing a sign that would be 11.28 metres, that’s 2.28 metres higher than the current 9.0 metres allowed under the bylaw.
Wood Wheaton says the sign is “consistent with General Motors standards across Canada”. City Staff recommended the variance be approved saying the size of the property (just under 7 acres) would allow for the increased height.
City Staff also believe the distance from residential neighbours (more than 350 metres) along with no concerns from the Ministry of Transportation, are reasons why the variance should be approved.
Councilor Sherry Sethen asked if other businesses along Highway 16 could expect to be able to have larger signs. Development Services Manager Dan Milburn says that depends "They can expect to comply with the bylaws, and in specific cases they may seek a bylaw variance and it will be evaluated using many of those same criteria we considered in this case."
