For those who have been"hooked" on  the eagle web cam, an update. We have just received this e-mail from Doug Carrick, the man behind the  project:

At 6 o’clock this morning (Pacific time - May 1) the eagle got up to stretch and there was only one egg remaining in the nest - confirmed by many people.  I hoped that the chick had hatched and that the shell had been blown away or discarded by the parents.  A chick would be very small and difficult to see, but look as I might, no chick made an appearance.
My guess is that the parents knew that the egg was infertile or that the chick inside was dead, and disposed of the egg.  I looked under the tree seeking the egg for further study, but didn’t find it.
Using the 38 day schedule for these eagles last year (from egg laying to hatching), the hatching date for the second egg should be May second.  David Hancock feels the chick should have started pecking through the shell 2 or 3 days ago if it were to meet even that schedule.  We will just have to wait and see.
