Prince George Regional Hospital will be one of 14 hospitals in the province that will be able to apply for special funding to ease emergency room pressures.

The Ministry of Health has announced it is setting aside $7 million dollars, but the dollars won’t be available for at least a month, and not without plenty of planning and discussion.

Before any dollars are handed out, each emergency room will name one Doctor and one nurse to work with a senior person  in the Health Authority.  The team will then work with paramedics, other physicians, nurses, allied professionals  hospital staff and managers to come up with ideas for improving the  flow through Emergency.

The Teams are expected to be selected today and they will report to the deputy minister throughout  May.  They will then huddle  at the end of the month to talk about their action plans, and look at the next steps.
