CNC Economics Instructor says Budget Lack Lustre

Al Idiens of CNC’s Business and Economics Division says “It may be kind of personal , but I thought that 250 million in the Conservatives first budget as opposed to the Liberal promise of 700 million was a poor choice on their part ."

"I found it difficult to understand why the Conservatives would spend 303 million on border security and only hand out $1200.00 dollars a year in child care payments. That doesn’t do much for the people earning 8 to 10 bucks an hour and trying to hold a job. It just doesn’t cut it." says the economics instructor.

All and all, Idiens says the budget was positive, "The Conservatives have eliminated the Federal corporate tax two years early that should have the effect of encouraging companies to invest in Canada." The rising dollars he added means that we have to be better at what we do in Canada, "We will have to be more productive and with this tax break it will help to grow our economy" which he feels will continue to grow.

The government he says is predicting a $600 million dollar surplus, "I am confident that it will be much larger because of the strong growth in all sectors. They after all inherited a good economy."   The promise to cut the GST from 7% to 6 % the economics instructor says will likely mean about $300 dollars a year for a family that earns about $60,000 a year and pays GST on about $30,000 of that amount.

As individuals it makes little difference to us Idiens says, "It is likely that the money will be spent in shopping and I don’t think we need more spending in Canada, that has been a problem, we need more saving” More saving would mean that there is more money to invest in the economy which is what he says we need right now. In conclusion he said "I think it has been a good budget that we all can live with. "

Lustre?????
"They after all inherited a good economy."

So did the Republicans in the USA ....
I get a kick out of all the Provincial Public Sector worker agreements, they were all passed but they will not see a nickle of their measley 10% because Both Federal and Provincial governments will take it back in taxes, the oil companies will take that raise too.
OWL...are you a Liberal? You sure sound like one....
If it was not for fixed election dates and Olympic 2010 the Provincial Public Sector workers and the BCTF would have got a lot less for increases. The Government wants all the contracts sealed, signed, and delivered so that they can have labour peace through 2010. Thats why there is a signing bonus of $4000.00 if you sign a 4 year contract. This will also keep all the Unions quiet until after the next election. This is one downside to fixed election dates, it allows the Government in power to manipulate situations that works in their best interest.
