Downtown Prince George has decided it will put on a Summerfest this summer afterall,  but it will be a little different.

The event this year, will take place on August 19th and will be just the one day.  "We decided to  go ahead with a smaller version " says Downtown P.G. Executive Director Janet Morris Reade "That should keep costs down."

The event was nearly moth-balled because of cost overuns,  it was expected the event would be in the hole by about $10 thousand dollars before it even got started.    Morris-Reade says the response from George Street  retailers was so overwhelmingly in support of Summerfest,  there really was no way  D-P-G could scrap the plan.

"We will do some things a little differently" she says "This year  it may be themed, we are looking at  bringing in a petting zoo, and some carriage rides, to give the event a western theme."

Those same George Street retailers who  called for a continuation of Summerfest can expect to be asked to help financially support the event as Morris-Reade says that will be the first stop in the search for sponsorship.

Great, "a western theme"... Just another reason to avoid this "hillbillyfest".
The Queen rides in a carriage. Is she from the west?
