Never mind Ben Mulroney, bye-bye Simon and Paula, the search is on for the best singer-songwriter in northern B.C. as FolkQuest gets underway.
Starting tomorrow, aspiring musicians can pick up an application to take part in the FolkQuest gala. The winner of the event will get to open for Matthew Good at this summer’s Folkfest in Prince George, July 28 and 29th.
The talent search gala night is set for June 10th, and the tickets to that evening will help fund the summer folk festival.
“One of the goals of Folkfest is to encourage new artists on their path to a career in music,” said Folkfest ’06 artistic director, Jo Beattie. “Here is a chance to open for Matthew, who is currently touring across Canada in his new, solo acoustic role. Matthew has a very strong fan base and we hope this opportunity generates a lot of participation.”
The top 18 applicants will appear at the gala event in June.
This summer’s Folkfest will feature not only Matthew Good, but, The Angel Brothers, The Alex Cuba Band, Fred Eaglesmith, Ferron, The Paperboys, Lazo and the Radikals, Kevin Breit and the Sisters Euclid, Ridley Bent, and Wayne Lavallee are also signed to perform over the two days at Fort George Park.
