Snowmobilers Will Have Access to Kakwa
A group of snowmobilers gathered at Kakwa Park last winter
Speaking to a group session on snowmobile access into Kakwa Park, MLA Shirley Bond made it very clear the province will continue to allow snowmobile access into the park. The park is about 200 km north east of Prince George at the headwaters of the McGregor River on the B.C.-Alberta border. She suggested if there are problems, those people get together and work those problems out.
Also at the meeting was MLA Pat Bell who reminded the attendees the Speech from the Throne made it quite clear this government was moving to allow (wherever possible) more access into BC’s parks.
Over thirty people gathered in Prince George to discuss the issue. Many of the people taking part came from Alberta. There is a high use of the park by Albertan’s from the Alberta side of the park.
Throughout the first half of the meeting, Minister Bond along with Minister Bell ,continually referred back to their earlier comments that the park will remain open for snowmobile use.
The facilitator for the meeting ,Norman Dale, called upon those in attendance (which included members of the environmental movement, backpackers, fish and wildlife officials and other interest groups) to be tough on the problem not the people.
A draft report will be presented to Cabinet for consideration.
