About 60 firefighters spent the weekend battling a fire near the Copper River, 15 km east of Terrace.

The fire had burned about 45 hectares as of Sunday afternoon and crews had it  50% contained.  Helicopters were bucketing the area Sunday, causing some rock and debris to roll down the mountain. That  was the reason why some residents in Copperside Estates were placed on an evacuation alert.

Five helicopters and two air tankers were  working on the fire, in addition to the two pieces of heavy equipment on the ground.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but it is believed to have been started by a person.
