The UNBC Board of Governors will hold its meeting in Fort St. John today.

This will be the last Board meeting for UNBC President Charles Jago, as his last day at the helm of the University is June 30th.  The person who will take over from  Jago is Don Cozzetto and he will be attending the meeting today.

On the agenda, approval of the University's new academic vision, a presentation on student enrolments as the University preps for classes this September.

There will also be a community panel discussion and reception set for this evening involving the Mayors of  Fort St. John, Fort Nelson, and Dawson Creek as well as the Chair of the Peace River Regional District and UNBC Board member Linda Chipesia the former Chief of the Blueberry River First Nation.

That public discussion is set to take place at 7:30  at the North Pace Cultural Centre.

And what was wrong with Prince George for this?
Why leave Town..UNBC got money to waste, Sure looks like it. More Bulls..t
No sense letting any of the businesses in Prince George benefit. Give the business to Fort St John, which is hardly in need of it!!!
Besides, Jago hasn't cleaned up the air problem yet. Cannot have these important people coming here to breathe foul air?
Get it together!!!
Most boards that have a regional presence go on the road on occasion. The school district, Northern Health, CNC and UNBC are all examples of organizations that do it. Gives the locals that they serve a chance to attend a meeting. Given that next to no one from the PG public ever attends the UNBC BOG meetings I don't think having one meeting out of town is a missed event.

The meetings are usually held up at the University so no local companies are out any potential business any how.
I assume we are all aware it is called the University of NORTHERN BC and that it is normal for both College and University Boards to meet every now and then in the communities in which they have a presence via a campus or other program.

It's called keeping the boys on the farm happy .... :-)

hmmmm ...... the stars were well positioned ..

;-)
taxi, car rental, hotels, restaurants ..... all used by board members from out of town and any consultants who may be attending the meetings.
The interesting thing will be the presentation on University Enrollments for this fall. One reason to go to outlying areas is to get as many of these people as possible to attend UNBC.

This University had declining enrollments for the past 3 years and if it continues it will be hard to keep it afloat in the future. I beleive the big infulx of students have gone through the system in the last 10 years and with declining enrollments in the elementary grades, and declining numbers of graduates, in school districts in North Central BC we are running out of available University Students.

It seems that the forcasts for students from the South, and Foreign students has not materilized, and therefore we have a problem.

The new President has inherited a big headache.

PS The new sports centre will do nothing to attract new students. The main problem with attracting students, is that they have too many choices, and Prince George is not their 1st choice.
