Weather Offers Fire Relief
By 250 News
Cooler weather and precipitation have reduced the fire danger rating for most of the Prince George Fire Centre.
From Friday, July 7 until today, lightning sparked 43 spot fires in various locations of the Prince George Fire Centre. The largest of these spot fires was approximately 1 hectare in size.
That is a major reduction compared to just one week ago, when 70 lightning-caused fires were reported between the hours of 09:00 AM and 09:00 PM on Monday July 3rd alone!
Even with the cooler temperatures and recent precipitation, the Prince George Fire Centre says that doesn’t mean we can breathe easy as the forest can dry out in less than a day after heavy rainfall.
Travellers in the Tumbler Ridge area are advised the restrictions on the Wapiti Forest Service Road and Rat Lake Road have been rescinded as of today, but sections of the Hourglass Road are still designated as Restricted Areas.
The bans prohibiting campfires , backyard burning and industrial burning are still in effect.
The fire danger rating is currently Low in the northern sections to High and Extreme in the southern sections of the Prince George Fire Centre.
