When the project was announced in April of this year, it was expected the "assessment" of the opportunities presented by the Prince Rupert Port would be completed by the end of this month.

The  work is still underway.

Rob Beynon is with InterVistas, a Vancouver consulting firm which also prepared the case for the runway expansion at the Prince George Airport.  He says it will be the end of August before the report is finalized.  "We needed to speak with all the major  players" says Beynon who explains there was some difficulty in  reaching all the key players.

One of the most significant players is CN.  Beynon says they needed to get some clear direction from the railway before the assessment could proceed. "We needed to have a clear direction to explore the range of possibilities" says Beynon who  adds there were still components of the BC Rail deal that needed to be completed  "It was my understanding CN  had a plan of things it wanted to accomplish in Northern B.C. and some of those things are still being developed".  Clearly CN has the infrastructure says Beynon, with rail lines from the coast to Mexico.

The other partners in the  assessment project include:  the Prince Rupert Port Authority, Prince George Airport Authority,  he Provincial Ministry of Economic Development, Community Futures,  Quesnel Community and Economic Development and the Northwest Corridor Development Corporation.

The assessment carries a $73,000. price tag. Most of the price tag is being carried by partners, and the Northern Development Trust  contributed $20,000.00
