The Highway 16-97 Economic Alliance  has made a  presentation  to the Regional District of Fraser-Fort George.  The presentation was similar to the appearance recently made before Prince George City Council  (click here for that story)

This time, presenter Kathy Scouten called upon the Regional District to pass a resolution supporting involvement in the Alliance.

The resolution calls for the Regional District to "sign on" and join with other communities and organizations in the region to form the "16-97 Economic Alliance" which will "collaboratively involve organizations and individuals responsible for and involved in economic development."

This was the first presentation made to a regional district, but Scouten says nine communities have already endorsed the principles of the Alliance.

If it agrees to be involved, the Regional District would be called upon to "provide sufficient resources for a representative to participate in the meetings" meaning, time and travel expenses.

Director Don Zurowski said this is the type of commitment that wouldn’t be taken lightly by the District, and it is one he supports, but he recommended waiting until the Board heard back from Administration on how the Alliance fit in with their Strategic Plan.

Chairperson Colin Kinsley mentioned that details such as who would represent the District and how their involvement would be funded would also need to be ironed out.

The Board agreed, and it’s expected the matter will come back at next month’s meeting, or by September at the latest.
