A travel restriction has been posted on roads in the remote area near Whatley Creek where  crews from the Prince George Fire Centre are battling a lightning sparked blaze.

The fire is burning about 400 hectares, and is located about 75 kms southeast of Tumbler Ridge.

Firefighters and heavy equipment have also been deployed to an approximately 25ha fire located  about 65km southwest of Vanderhoof. The cause of that fire is under investigation.

Initial attack crews were also deployed over the weekend to 7 lightning-caused spot fires, each under one hectare in size. Three of these fires have been extinguished, one is in patrol status and the remainder are being actioned by initial attack teams.

There has also been significant growth in a  fire first spotted Monday afternoon  115 kms west of Williams Lake.  Sparked by lightning, that blaze grew from 45 hectares to  400 hectares in less than 24 hours.  There are 60 firefighters, three choppers and 8 pieces of heavy equipment working on that blaze.

There is a ban on backyard burning  and industrial pile burning at all elevations of the Prince George Fire Centre until further notice. Campfires are not restricted at this time.
