A fire on  St.Patrick Avenue in Prince George has left a 13 year old youth with burns to the lower part of his legs.

The fire broke out when the youth and a friend were  working on a quad in the garage of a home  in the 7700 block of St. Patrick Avenue.  A gas can ignited, and the  teen was burned when he tried to put out the fire.

Neighbours were able to prevent the youth from receiving more extensive burns after they rolled him on the grass in an attempt to put out the flames .The second youth did not receive any serious burns.

The blaze broke out at 6.51 P.M. this evening, and resulted in five fire trucks responding to the scene.

Firemen on the scene were able to stop the blaze from spreading to the homes on eighter side of the blaze, but both  of those neighbouring homes received major heat, water and smoke damage.  Firemen trained their efforts on the adjoining homes in an effort to prevent the blaze from spreading.

It is lucky that the fire was in a house which has a bit more separation from the neighouring houses. If it had the normal 8 feet of other houses in that row of houses, and many other houses now being built in PG, the fire would likely have jumped to those houses.

I think the City should look at the Bulding Code a bit more closely since that part of the code is very poorly enforced by inspectors.
