It will likely be at least Monday  before visiting restrictions are lifted at Mackenzie Hospital. The number of people  with symptoms of gastrointestinal illness at the facility has grown.

Two acute care patients have the illness, and now, two more staff members are showing symptoms, bringing the total  of  infected people to 9.

Symptoms include:  sudden onset of nausea, vomiting and diarrhea, as well as cramping, chills and fever. Symptoms generally last from one to three days.

The  Mackenzie Hospital also hosts offices for the communities four doctors.  Hand washing stations have been set up at those offices, as hand washing is one of the best ways of preventing  the spread of the illness.

Northern Health's Comunications Director, Mark Karjuluoto says the situation will be monitored daily, but right now, it  looks like it will be at least Monday before the doors will be reopened to visitors.
