There will be another test beetle kill burn later today.
Researchers investigating the behaviour of wildfire in forests affected by the mountain pine beetle plan to ignite another test plot at the Carrott Lake research site, about 100 km southwest of Vanderhoof.
The burn is likely to be conducted late this afternoon unless weather conditions don't cooperate.
The experimental burns are being condicted so scientists can monitor the behaviour of fire in a beetle kill stand. The results will help fire managers respond more effectively to such fires. It is generall y beleived firesin beetle kill stands don't act the same as those in a regular healthy forest. Theese test fires will help fire fighters develop effective strategies to battle the flames.
The P.G. Fire Centre advises that while the burn will be managed to minimize the risk of escape and excessive smoke, there is still the potential for some smoke in the area. Recreation sites in the vicinity include Big Bend Meadow, Lavoie Lake, Chutanli Lake and Tanli.
