B.C. is looking into the effects of log exports from the province.

Former Deputy Forests Minister Don Wright and professional forester Bill Dumont have been selected to examine the rationale for log exports from private and Crown lands and their effect on harvesting, log markets, workers communities and the forest industry products industry.

The two men will analyze current laws, regulations and policies governing log exports and will make recommendations to improve the existing legal and administrative structure. They will deliver their report by Nov 15th, 2006 .

Its all about getting ready to ship those logs to Alberta for processing.

The Ainsworth Lumber OSB plants have both been shelved for PG negating the 800 direct employee boost to the community they promised after a pair of massive beetle-killed timber salvage licences tendered by the province.

This will be the first of many Northern BC timber licenses going for export to communities in Alberta and Washington State where they will have a more stable long term timber supply.

Expect your government to assist in this process.
I would rather see it go to Alberta than the USA.
Does the United States of America export logs? Jest wunderin'.
According to the attached bulletin from Timberwest the US exported 6.5 times more logs to Canada than it imported from Canada in the year 2001. I am not looking any further for info since this indicates to me that the decision of whether to export logs or not is dependent on a few other factors which I have not been aware of.

I know when I drive south, the ships are being loaded with logs at Longview, Washington on the Columbia River. Don't know the destination, but for sure they are not being processed in Washington or Oregon.
