Prince George RCMP are passing out some praise to the Beavery Volunteer Fire Department for its handling of an incident on Highway 16 west yesterday.

A motorhome's engine had caught fire.  The flames first spotted by a  motorcyclist who convinced the motorhome's driver to pull over near the McBride Timber Road.   The owner emptied two of his own fire extinguishers into the engine compartment but that wasn't enough to stop the spread of the flames.  The fire burned through the brake lines, causing the motorhome to  roll across the  highway and into the ditch.

The volunteer firefighters  not only extinguished the fire, but took command of the Highway, directing traffic and eventually closing the roadway as the propane tanks on the motorhome "vented" like flame throwers,  across the roadway.

Police say the Beaverly Volunteers  are to be commended for their actions and the prevention of a more serious incident.

To Chief Bruce, and his crew, Great jobs guys and gals !

Especially proud of my Dad who has given his heart and soul to that dept. for well over 20 years now.
Our appreciation for volunteers often goes unnoticed. I am thankful and grateful for the time, effort and committment these volunteer firefighters give for the care of their local community and citizens.

There is no way, fulltime, professional firefighters will ever be justified in rural areas. So, my hat goes off to all Volunteer Fire Departments and their members. Thank you. Chester
