Prince George City Manager George Paul is leaving his post at the end of this year, and the search for his replacement kicks into a new gear this weekend.

Ads  for the position will  be appearing in  newspapers across the country this weekend.

With  Paul  leaving  the office  "officially"  on December 31st,  the time may be tight to receive resumes, produce a short list and conduct interviews.  "I have some flexibility" says Paul who adds he would be willing to stay a little longer.  "If Council wishes  me to stay a little longer, I am able to do that.  If Council would like to have some overlap I am willing to do that."

George Paul has held the post as City Manager for 17 years.   He has said that while he still has enthusiasm for the job, he beleives the time has come for new blood.

Is this another example of bad planning at City Hall ? He annouced his retirement over 6 months ago and just now are they starting the replacement process.

Or do it this way, so he be lured back as a consultant until such time as a suitable applicant is found and brought to the city ?
As City Manager, and person in charge of staffing, is he responsible for an effective approach to find a new City Manager?

I would have thought that a head hunting firm had been at work on this for a month or two by now and would be just about ready to make some recommendations for interviews.

Assuming the person should be on the job early December so that he could shadow George Paul for a couple of weeks, she/he should be hired late October so that proper notice can be given if needed and a move made, if needed. That means short listing should be done by end of September, early October with interviews in the middle two weeks of October.

So, if ads are appearing, and there is suffcient interest, the timing is likely still okay by the skin of the teeth.

Perhaps there is no "job shadowing" being considered, in which case the whole thing is quite on time.

What a time to move a family. Spend Xmas in a hotel room looking for a house in the midst of typical Xmas weather ... rain one day, snow the next ... 3C one day -20C the next .....

Welcome to PG ... :-)

He knows what is coming....and in my opinion is bailing before it hits....go man.....
Just placing ads for his replacement this week end? Those ads should have been placed months ago. What was the reason for the delay?
Maybe wants to stay in the position a little longer-as an opportunity may be coming to feather his nest.
How is it I do not trust those who work at Prince George City Hall?
Why am I so suspicious of the Mayor and council, and what goes on behind closed doors we are given no knowledge of?
How I would like to see a good housecleaning at city hall.
How did Kinsley ever get voted back in-along with his ever faithful cronies?
I could not give an educated guess-let alone an uneducated one!
Did the residents flip a coin-heads for yes-tails for no? when looking at the list of candidates?
We'll never know.
The list of candidates was too long.

The issues were controlled by the media in that they asked the questions to which the answers were printed for the largest audience.

Everyone answered the questions the same way, often in double talk.

It was the devil you know versus the devil you do not know.

Most did not have the faintest clue what people stood for and there was no one prominent enough among the new faces which would draw people to vote for them because they knew them.

Unless you goof up royally as an incumbent, you are a virtual shoo-in.
Bob Radloff. Been there through all this. Knows the ropes. No need to interview. Already available. Probably is interested in the position. And everyone already knows him. So, Duh! What do you think? Chester
He would have to give up running a private engineering firm off the side of his City Hall desk.
Offer candidates piles of money and benefits, you know, we must pay the highest wages to retain these(qualified)people or entice them to take the job. Of course there is no one qualified within the City to take on such a job. Lets hire an Albertan or maybe better yet an American who knows nothing of the city. Pay them big bucks from our taxes to do nothing.
