The oil and gas  industry continues to be the hot commodity in B.C. with sales of oil and gas rights in the month of August coming in at $67.79 million .

Most of the activity is taking place in the Fort St. John region, making some insiders say that means the companies figure the market is stable and will be for some time.  The sales mean the annual sales for oil and gas rights could hit $500 million this year. The activity is welcome news as the urgency to find new sources of fossil fuels has eased over the past month.

The  Province is pushing to  spark the same kind of activity in the Nechako Basin.  There are efforts underway to get a higher level of geo-science information out to the public.  It is thought that with  better information and more detailed studies,  larger established oil and gas companies will want to  explore the possibilities and potential of the Nechako basin.

The Government has enough studies on the Nechako Basin on file to sink a battleship. I suspect that much like the Alcan File., they have no one reading or getting up to date on this file.

The promise of Oil/Gas in the Nechako Basin, and the perceived spin off from the Container Port in Prince Rupert, plus other B.S. scenarios put out by the Liberals allows them to give the impression that they are doing something with the economy, and that there is light in the tunnel after the disaster coming from the Pine Beetle Infestation.

The Liberals theme seems to be:

**As long as it appears that you are doing something, then people will beleive that you are, even if in fact you are doing nothing**
Actually there is never ever enough seismic information. Formation information is absolutely vital as no one does a blind wildcat anymore.
YamaDooPolCat. Look up Nechako Basin, and Canadian Hunter Explorations on the Internet, and you will see that Canadian Hunter gave up on the Nechako Basin in the 1980's after a major exploration, seismic, and drilling program. The Government has reems of information Seismic and otherwise on the Nechako basin that goes back years. These reports indicate that there is some major gas deposits in some areas, and some oil deposits that have potential, however it is where they are located and at what depth etc;, that makes it hard to extract it.

As I said before the Nechako Basin stretches from North of Smithers to South of Williams Lake BC and is larger in size that Vancouver Island. Its not like this oil and gas was located between Prince George and Vanderhoof along the Hiway right close to the Pipeline.
It is a "fool some of the people some of the time-and make it enough of them to count."
If the government can hype the public up to the point they don't get too excited about happenings such as the Alcan fiasco by leading them to believe great things are about to happen in the Nechako basin-and the liquid gold shall gush from the ground-they have accomplished a mission.
They rely on the public being gullible.
And most are!
I talk to people who swear there have already been gigantic discoveries and the cover up is required so there will not be a glut on the market.
Ever hear anything so ridiculous?
The public is so desperate to hear "good things are about to happen" that they are ready to believe any spin the government wants to put on them.
Especially in the northern half of the province, and the majority believe the south will attain great riches from the 2010 Olympics, and we shall have the scraps, and after that, the massive bills.
Probably true, but they are tired of being depressed.
It is called "grasping at straws."
They are getting good at it!
