Having the rink ready for the Cougars home opener...priceless!
Making the repairs to the ice at the CN Centre has turned out to be an expensive propostion. There is also the matter of paying the overtime dollars involved for City workers to ensure the job was done in time for a pre-game skate later this morning.
The ice was ruined when oil, from a new piece added to the Zamboni, worked its way on to the ice surface and ruined it. The problem was compounded by a break down in the new ice making system.
The City of Prince George has agreed to pick up the tab to reimburse advertisers who will lose home opener exposure because their logo won’t be on the ice in time. Prorated, that works out to $233 dollars per advertiser.
There are indications the CN Centre is not the only rink having a problem. Opinion 250 has been told other arenas which had installed the new piece of equipment supplied by Zamboni are experiencing similar difficulties. It is expected the City of Prince George will request Zamboni issue a reimbursement for the costs.
The ice is expected to be ready for this morning’s team skate.
As for the Zamboni, it has been cleaned and re-cleaned, and the problem has been eliminated.
