Ron Brent Park: the parcel in question  is from Victoria Street on the west, to Oak Street on the east, 20th avenue on the south  to the back of the Connaught Youth Centre property

Prince George City Council has given  first two readings to a re-zoning application that would see Ron Brent Park  (across from where Wood Wheaton used to be) become the new home for a seniors living complex.

This is the site chosen for the "Campus of Care" facility announced by Northern Health a litle over a month ago.   (see "Move Towards More Senior Care in P.G.)

The plan calls for phase one to  see the development of 94 complex care beds for those who need care 24-7 and 81 assisted living units.

Phase 2 calls for a further 120 complex care beds, and 36 assisted living units.

In all, the project would need 6.6 acres.  If approved, the developers, Spectrum Seniors Housing Development, and Chartwell Seniors Housing REIT plan to have the first phase open in October of 2008.

Councilor Don Zurowski says  "Its good news, and of course I will still go to the public hearing with an open mind, but this is good news."

Why on earth would the city take away more recreation space for development by some money rich company, even if it is for something good like a seniors complex !

Go purchase the old Wood Weaton lot instead and make the building fit into the land base there, if that is not enough all ready.

Why take away a well used park area when there is a empty lot right across the street !
