This is now officially "Oil and Gas Week" in B.C. as the Premier made the declaration  in Dawson Creek launching the Oil and Gas conference. "Proclaiming Oil and Gas Week is one more way we can thank the people and businesses behind the industry’s success for their ongoing contribution and commitment to B.C."

The Premier noted  it is the oil and gas industry that is driving the economy in the north east of the province,  employing more than 11 thousand people.

Activity in the northeast  has stepped up over the past 18 months.  The number of wells drilled in the summer of 2005  (526) was more than double the number  drilled in the same period in 2001.

The Premier said  his government is committed to ensuring the industry has the skilled labour it needs to proceed.  That includes job fairs which have been scheduled across B.C. and the recent news from the Minister of Mines Bill Bennett when he stated the province will look towards improving immigration policies  to bring  in skilled labour from Mexico and India.

Seems the government is looking for every way they can to bring in the cheap labour... and destroy any unions we have....
When they win....we can all enjoy the pay cuts and benifits....ha ha...what benifits...
Of course you are committed to ensuring the industry has the skilled labour it needs to proceed.
There are also many dollars in taxes involved as well. This I truely beleive is the real reason.

In my opinion, maybe one of these days the politicians will leave their dream world and join the rest of us here on planet earth.
As for union breaking> I seem to remember something about doing what could be done to disband trade unions, during a pre-election speach. Maybe I am wrong but I don't think so in this case.
When we are all making 8 bucks an hour and your average house is 300,000 and trucks are around 50,000! Yes... thats going to go over real well!.
