Hockey Mom and Daughter Want Locker Room Equality

The B.C. Human Rights tribunal will make a decision later this week on a matter that will touch two nerves.
First, it hits the hockey nerve, and then there's that equal rights thing.
Here goes:
A Hockey mom in Lumby wants her 14 year old daughter to be able to be allowed to change in the same locker room as the boys on her co-ed hockey team.
Mom says her daughter feels like a second class player because she is only allowed in the dressing room 15 minutes before game time. Minor hockey league rules in B.C. state that once the boys and girls turn 11, there must be separate dressing rooms. Mom and daughter say that's descriminatory.
Coach says he just wants to provide a safe environment, and if one girl , in amongst all those boys, feels threatened, well then, it isn't worth it. He says he would rather her feel left out than threatened.
What about the rights of the boys?
We are constantly shouting "my rights... my rights....." we are so busy being selfish, demanding what we want for ourselves, we never consider we may be infringing on the rights of others. It is as if the Charter of Rights was designed as a one way street!
What happened, to go out, have some fun, play your best, and have a cup of cocoa at the end of the day? Rights, legal battles, tribunals, who cares? Just let the kids play hockey!
